My online proposal
From my research of other companies I have chosen to start an online business sell gaming computers as there is a growing market for more powerful computers. This area is broken into the following sections:
- What will I have on my website?
- Competition
- Costs
- Promotion of website
- Market research
What will I have on my website? Commercial websites are always trying to attract more consumers and get them to spend their money; I hope to emulate this by using the different sections of a web page:
- Pictures – Customers nowadays do not have the patience to sieve through websites to find what they want, more likely they will try spot a picture of the product they are/want to buy. For example clothes and shoe shops rely on a lot of pictures because everyone buying these products has different tastes. This is not as important for computers however with gaming PCs looks can be important, I will include pictures as a way to help navigate the site.
- Roll-overs – A roll-over is either a word or picture that when you place the cursor something on the page changes. These are used by many sites in the side bar as a quick way to find products and services. For my site I plan to use them with images so you place the cursor over a picture and you get information and a choice of a link to the products page. I think that it is also a good idea to use them on the top of the website navigation bar.
- FAQ (frequently asked questions) – These can be one of the most informative area of a website and generally include questions about postage and packaging and shipping costs. I would use one of these to give general information out and have a copy of the terms and agreements attached to the page in case anyone wants to read it.
- Hyperlinks – Are used by all website as a means to navigate different pages and to other sites. By placing theses on the navigation bar people will be able to make their way round the site easily. The main advantage of these is that you can use them on images as well as words i.e. click on a picture to take you to another page.
- Register – When you register to a website you are helping the site with research as it has a growing data base of people that have signed up to the site. This can see what trends are in the market and what products are popular. Also when people give you their email address you can send them promotional offers and selective sales. This could create more sales and profit.
- User friendly – If the website site is not easy to use then you will lose potential customers and revenue, however if the site is well laid out and can be used by anyone then the chances of selling improve and so does the profit level. As there is alot of competition in the IT sector for computer sales that a website that is easy to use and buy from will do better then a poorly thought out site that is difficult to find what you want.
- Search bar – This option helps customers navigate a site very quickly and find what they are looking for. Another advantages is that you can see what customers are searching for and if they find it. This may tell youn that you need bring in new items that are searched for alot.
Competiton
In the computer industry there is a vast array of businesses that make and sell computers. This means that business could be difficult until you become a more well known company with the online presense.
One of the main competitors is Dell inc as they are well known in the industry and cater for any computing tastes. With a advertising on the television and a large online site they are a treat to ant computing company that deals desk-tops to laptops.
Stores like PC World are also a threat as they have more advertising and have stores around the country as well as a online store.
